Dating Scan
| Dating Scan/Viability Scan (7-19 weeks)
Purpose of scan – To check babies heartbeat is present. Confirmation of number of fetus’s and to check site of pregnancy, i.e. exclude ectopic pregnancies. Date pregnancy and confirm ultrasound estimated date of delivery. The scan is normally performed transabdominally, however a internal scan may be required at earlier gestations, i.e. 7 - 8 weeks. Preparation for scan is to attend with a full bladder. From 17 weeks it may be possible to confirm the gender of the baby.
